D-Tan at home: what a sun-tan removal pack is
Kolkata’s sun does not wait for summer, and a tan shows first on the face, arms and feet. A D-Tan at home is a sun-tan removal pack for those areas, done in about 20 minutes with Beautyqueen. It helps with a sun tan; it does not change your natural skin colour, and every skin tone is beautiful.
A holiday, a few weeks of daily errands on a two-wheeler, or long hours at an outdoor puja pandal can all leave a tan behind. This article, written by the Beautyqueen team, explains what a D-Tan pack is, what happens during it, who should be careful, and how to protect your skin afterwards.
What is a D-Tan, and what does it do?
A D-Tan is a pack used to help reduce a sun tan, the darker patches that strong sun can leave on exposed skin. It is a care service, not a skin treatment.
A D-Tan does not change your natural skin colour, and it is not a “fairness” treatment. Every skin tone is beautiful. How much a tan fades depends on your skin and on the tan itself, so results vary from person to person.
What happens during a D-Tan at home?
A D-Tan usually has four simple steps and takes about 20 minutes. Every beautician works in her own way, but the broad order is the same.
- The skin is cleansed so the pack can sit evenly.
- The D-Tan pack is spread on the tanned area: face, neck, arms or feet.
- The pack is left on for the time the product needs.
- It is removed and the skin is wiped clean and soothed.
Our beautician adapts each step to your skin and chooses the product after a look at it. Her exact routine is her own craft, so this article describes the general steps of a D-Tan, not her method.
How long does it take, and can you add it to another service?
A D-Tan takes about 20 minutes, so it fits easily into a visit. Many women add it to a cleanup or a facial.
| Service at home | About how long |
|---|---|
| D-Tan | 20 minutes |
| Cleanup | 30 minutes |
| Facial | 60 minutes |
Our visits run from 12 PM to 6 PM, six days a week; we are closed on Thursdays. Tell us when you book which services you want, so we can plan the time.
Who should be careful with a D-Tan?
Sensitive skin, sunburn or a new product all call for a little caution. A patch test is the simplest safeguard.
- Sunburnt, broken or peeling skin should not get a D-Tan pack until it heals.
- Sensitive skin or allergies: tell us when you book.
- A new product: the American Academy of Dermatology explains how to test skin care products on the inner arm or the bend of the elbow, twice a day for seven to 10 days.
- Redness, itching or swelling during a test or after a pack means stop, and see a dermatologist if it does not settle.
Dark patches that are not from the sun, such as melasma or marks from a skin condition, need a dermatologist, not a D-Tan pack.
What should you keep ready at home?
Keep ready a comfortable seat near good light and a plug point, with the area to be treated free of make-up. That is all a D-Tan needs from you.
At a Beautyqueen D-Tan, our beautician brings her own kit and fresh towels, and looks at the skin before she starts. Every visit follows the same hygiene habits: fresh towels, sanitised tools, and disposables wherever a service needs them.
How should you protect your skin after a D-Tan?
Protect the skin from the sun, because a new tan starts as soon as you step out unprotected. Sun care matters more than any pack.
The American Academy of Dermatology says that a tan is a sign that your skin has been injured, and gives this advice:
- Use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, even on cloudy days.
- Reapply it every two hours outdoors, and after sweating.
- Seek shade in the middle of the day, when the sun is strongest.
- Wear long sleeves, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses when you can.
Also avoid scrubs and strong products on the treated skin for a day or two.
Where does a sun tan usually show?
A tan shows most on skin the sun reaches every day: the face, neck, forearms, hands and feet. Covered skin usually stays its usual colour.
- Face and neck, from daily travel and errands without shade.
- Forearms and hands, from driving, two-wheeler rides or carrying bags.
- Feet, especially with open sandals, often leaving a clear strap line.
- The back of the neck, when hair is tied up in summer.
Covering these areas and using sunscreen every day is the simplest way to keep a new tan from building up again after a D-Tan.

D-Tan at home: Frequently Asked Questions
Is a D tan pack good for skin?
A D-Tan pack can help reduce a sun tan when it is used properly on healthy skin. Results vary with the skin and the tan, so try a small patch first if your skin is sensitive. It is not meant to change your natural skin colour, and sunscreen afterwards matters most.
How many times can we use a D-tan pack?
There is no single number for everyone. Follow the product’s own directions, do not use it on irritated skin, and give the skin time to settle between uses. Our beautician will suggest how often suits your skin.
What are D-tan side effects?
Some people feel tingling, redness or irritation, especially with sensitive skin or a new product. A patch test before the first use helps. If redness, itching or swelling does not settle, stop and see a dermatologist.
