Neither one wins every time, and we say that as a home service. Choosing a beautician at home or salon comes down to the service you want, the time you have and where you feel comfortable. Home saves travel and keeps you in your own space; a salon offers more services, more equipment and walk-in visits.
We are a home service, so we could simply say home is always better. It is not always. This article, written by the Beautyqueen team, sets out fairly what a beautician at home does well, what a salon does better, and how to choose for yourself in Lake Town, Bangur, Baguiati or New Town.
What does a beautician at home do better?
A home visit saves travel, waiting and planning, and keeps you in your own familiar space. For many women it simply fits the day better.
- No travel or waiting. The beautician comes to you, so there is no traffic, parking or queue.
- Your own space. You sit in your own room, with your own bathroom nearby and family close by.
- Easier for some women. New mothers, busy professionals, elderly mothers and anyone who finds travel tiring often prefer it.
- One woman, one client. The beautician’s attention stays on you for the whole visit.
- Several services in one visit, for example threading with a cleanup, planned in advance.
What does a salon or parlour do better?
A salon offers more services and more equipment under one roof, and often walk-in visits. Some treatments simply need a salon setting.
- A wider menu, such as bridal make-up, nail services or chemical hair treatments, which a home service may not offer.
- Fixed equipment, like basin chairs for hair washing and special lights.
- Walk-ins, when you need something without booking ahead.
- Several staff, so friends can be served side by side.
Beautyqueen is honest about its limits: our seven services are facial, cleanup, threading, waxing, D-Tan, haircut and hair spa. We do not offer bridal or party make-up, chemical hair treatments or bikini waxing, and nail art is coming soon. For those, a salon is the right place.

What should you check before calling a beautician home?
Check who is coming, what she brings and how hygiene is handled. A good home service will answer these plainly.

How does hygiene compare?
Good hygiene depends on habits, not on the address. Clean tools, fresh supplies and washed hands matter in a salon and at home alike.

What does a home visit look like, start to finish?
A home visit takes three steps: one WhatsApp message, a confirmed slot, and the beautician at your door. There is nothing to download and no form to fill in.
- Message us at least one day ahead with the service, date and area.
- We confirm the time and the price on WhatsApp before anything is fixed.
- The beautician arrives with her kit; you need only a chair, good light and a plug point.
- You pay after the service, by UPI or cash, with no travel charge.
A facial takes about 60 minutes, a cleanup about 30, a D-Tan about 20, and a haircut 30 to 45 minutes, so you can plan the rest of your day around the visit.
Who comes to your home, and where?
A woman beautician from Beautyqueen comes to your home, as our service is exclusively for women. We visit seven PIN codes of north-east Kolkata.
They are Lake Town (700089), Bangur Avenue and Dum Dum Park (700055), Baguiati (700159 and 700059) and New Town (700156, 700135 and 700161). Our visits run from 12 PM to 6 PM, six days a week; we are closed on Thursdays. See the areas we visit, or all our home beauty services.

What is the difference between a beauty salon and a parlour?
In India the two words are often used for the same thing. “Beauty parlour” usually means a place for women’s beauty services such as facials, threading and waxing, while “salon” can be wider, often covering hair care and sometimes serving men as well. Always check the service list rather than the name.
